Concentrates Guide

What Are Concentrates?

Live extract products offer an accurate representation of the living plant.

Dried plants and living plants are inherently different in aroma and flavor because the more volatile terpenes and flavonoids burn off during the drying process. Live resin is produced from cryogenically frozen whole plant cannabis that is extracted with n-butane.

Concentrates FAQs

  • What is live resin?

Live resin is an accurate representation of the living plant in a concentrated, smokable form. A great way to think about it is to compare a living plant and a dried plant—their smell is drastically different. Terpenes are incredibly volatile, and you lose up to 70% of them during the drying process. That means the living plant has a much more complex smell and flavor, and in turn, that complexity comes through in live resin form.

  • What kinds of extracts does Proper make?

We sell Live Badder, Live Diamonds and Sauce, Live Solventless Rosin, Live Rosin Cartridges, Liquid Diamond Cartridges, and Sauce+ Cartridges.

  • What’s your process to harvest for live resin and rosin products?

Our process begins by selecting strains from our upcoming harvest. The harvested plants are promptly frozen by our processing team using a cryogenic freezer and placed in storage.

We maintain those low temperatures throughout our extraction process; we achieve those same low temperatures with our chiller and dry ice. This allows us to have all the volatile terpenes and flavonoids that typically boil off in the drying process in our final live resin product.

  • What’s the difference between Proper’s rosin and live resin extraction?

Rosin is made using only water, heat and pressure—no solvents. Our live resin products are made using butane (a solvent) extraction, which is purged from the product before going to customers.

Throughout our  extraction, we maintain low temperatures using chillers and dry ice. This preserves volatile terpenes and flavonoids that would typically dissipate during drying, resulting in a final live resin product rich in flavor and aroma.

Ultimately, rosin and badder share a nearly indistinguishable appearance and consistency.

  • Why isn’t my favorite strain available as rosin?

Not all strains wash well. If the yield is too low, we will not make rosin with it.

  • What equipment does Proper use to make rosin?

We have a commercial Lowtemp Industries Chilled Osprey to ensure we’re processing flower at the lowest temperature possible with the cleanest results. All ice water hash is processed in food grade passivated 304 stainless steel. Once washed, the ice water hash is pressed at the lowest temperatures possible in small batches to ensure consistent quality.

Our rosin is filtered down to a 25μm screen.

  • How do I store my rosin?

For optimal preservation, we advise refrigerating your rosin jars. Prior to opening, allow the rosin to reach room temperature to prevent condensation from forming inside the jar.

  • Which is more potent: rosin or live resin?

Neither; they have similar levels of THC.

  • Does Proper use CRC?

No. We don’t take any shortcuts. Our extracts never see a secondary solvent or a Color Remediation Column (CRC).
